Empowering the Femal Student Athlete

  • Tinora Performing Arts Center 5855 Domersville Rd Defiance United States (map)

Tinora Athletics is excited to invite female student-athletes, families, coaches, and community members from across the area to a special evening focused on supporting young women both in and beyond athletics.

Empowering the Female Student-Athlete in Mind, Body, and Spirit will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, from 5:00–6:30 p.m. at the Tinora Performing Arts Center. The event is FREE and open to the public.

The evening will feature two experts from The Ohio State University who will share evidence-based, practical guidance designed specifically to help student-athletes strengthen their physical health, mental resilience, athletic performance, and overall well-being.

Featured Speakers

Dr. Marcia Edwards, Sports Psychologist at The Ohio State University

Dr. Marcia Edwards, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Drawing from her own background as an athlete, Dr. Edwards specializes in sport psychology, trauma and injury recovery, mood and anxiety disorders, grief, and athletic identity.

Her work helps athletes navigate performance pressure, recover from adversity, strengthen their mental health, and develop the skills needed to thrive both on and off the field.

Gabby Mushisky, MDN, RDN, LD, ATC, Sports Dietitian at The Ohio State University

Gabby Mushisky is a Sports Dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where she pioneered the Sports Medicine Outreach Dietitian role to bring dedicated nutritional support directly to student-athletes.

With a background in athletic training, strength and conditioning, and dietetics and nutrition, Mushisky combines her expertise in sports medicine and nutrition to help athletes fuel their bodies, optimize performance and recovery, and develop healthy habits that extend well beyond their competitive years.

Bringing Female Student-Athletes Together

While competition is an important part of athletics, this event provides an opportunity to step beyond team and school boundaries and focus on something every female student-athlete shares: the need for the knowledge, resources, and support to be healthy and successful.

By opening the event to the public, Tinora Athletics hopes to bring together student-athletes from throughout the area and empower young women with tools they can use in competition, in the classroom, and throughout their lives.

The event was made possible in part through a $1,000 grant awarded to Tinora Athletics by the Women’s Giving Circle of Defiance County. Their generous support allows this educational opportunity to be offered completely free of charge to attendees.
